—> Learn how and when contacts are created in charles

There are three ways that a contact is created in charles (+ is displayed in your contacts table):

1. They text you first
2. They leave their number in charles sign-up form
3. They have their number stored in your connected shop system (and you choose to create contacts for them)

User texts you first (using a WA.ME link):

• User is created in charles when: user writes WhatsApp number
• Opt-in upon creation: implicit single opt-in through actively reaching out (no opt-in status in charles by default)
• Double opt-in: opt-in status given though flows you built
• Additional info:
  • All orders will synch if uses has previously entered their number in a order from your shop

User fills in charles sign-up form:

• User is created in charles when: user fills in sign-up form
• Opt-in: by default through sign up form
• Double opt-in: in first order confirmation (through flows you built)
• Additional info:
  • All orders will automatically synch
